Date: c. 1510–1535
Creator of the image: Hieronymus Bosch Date of the image creation: c. 1510–1535 Medium of the image: Oil on wooden panel Person depicted: Ridiculer There is some controversy as to whether this painting of Christ Carrying the Cross is by Hieronymus Bosch (c. 1450–1516) or one of his followers. The scene depicts, as its name suggests, Christ bearing the cross, surrounded by a tight crowd of people. This detail is one of the 18 figures, most of them grotesque, who surround Christ. This man is one of three persons who are ridiculing and mocking a thief who sneers back at them in an aggressive manner. The work is housed in the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium.
