Gandhara is the ancient name for the kingdom of Peshawar, crossing the Swat Valley and Potohar regions of Pakistan and the Jalabad region of Afghanistan. The sculpture has stucco with traces of pigment attached to it. Mary Harrsch photographed the image in 2009 at the Art Institute of Chicago.
